Augusta, GA – Herman Mitchum passed away on Sunday, June 6, 2010 at his residence. He was a loving, gentle and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was always concerned about the well being of others until the day he passed.

Mr. Mitchum was a farmer as a young man, graduated from Lyons Georgia High School in 1945. He served in the Army from 1945 to 1947. In addition, he was a greeter at Warren Baptist Church and a member for almost 40 years. He retired from United Merchants after 30 years of service.

He is survived by his wife Janie R. Mitchum of nearly 46 years, his children Wanda Barnett and husband Randy, Sherry Barnett and husband BJ, Larry Mitchum and wife Cynthia, grandchildren Paula Jones Rhodes and husband Bill, Amanda Barnett, Mitch Barnett and great grandchildren Corey Jones, and McKenzie Jones. He was preceded in death by his parents William A. Mitchum and Elizabeth Mosley Mitchum, sisters Pink Findley, Daisy Knight, Missouri Whitman, Martha Mixon, Eudell Anderson, Lillian Hellams, brothers Ralph Mitchum and William Lee Mitchum.


Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at The Chapel at Warren Baptist Church with Rev. Dave Dillard officiating. Pallbearers will be Bill Rhodes, Mitch Barnett, Corey Jones, Mike McWhorter, Emory Mixon, Jim Hellams and Earl Mitchum. Honorary Pallbearers will be the members the Volunteer/Muns Sunday School Class.
