Hildyer Eugene “Hick” Brown

Funeral services for Hildyer Eugene “Hick” Brown will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. at Thomas Poteet & Son, 214 Davis Rd, Augusta GA with Rev. Susan Gilbert officiating. Interment will follow at Bellevue Memorial Gardens, 4501 Wrightsboro Rd, Augusta GA. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 24, 2010 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Thomas Poteet & Son. Memorial contributions may be directed to Pierce Memorial United Methodist Church, 1441 Jackson Rd, Augusta, GA 30909-2768.

Pallbearers will be Roger Bagby, Charles Bagby, Jimmy Bagby, Mike Dixon, Keith Henderson, and Richard Johnson. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Pierce Memorial United Methodist Men’s Club.

Mr. Brown, 81, of Grovetown, passed away on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at his home, surrounded by his wife, family, and friends.

Born in Helena, GA, Hildyer “Hick” was the son of the late Paul and Thelma Maddox Brown and lived in Augusta for most of his life. A Korean War veteran, he served in the U. S. Navy from 1951 to 1955 aboard the USS Ticonderoga. Hick worked as an appliance technician in both Aiken and Augusta until his retirement. He was a member of Pierce Memorial United Methodist Church. Hick enjoyed travel and, with his wife, had visited all 50 states. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, and watching Braves baseball.

Hick is survived by his wife of 60 years Vera Youngblood Brown, brother Harvey Brown, sister Mary Ellen Loveless, son Hildyer (Martha) Brown, Jr. and grandson, Adam, son Byron (Velma) Brown, daughter Valerie (John) Cox, granddaughters, Angela Cox and Erin (Bill) Johnson and great-granddaughter Carleigh Elizabeth Johnson.
