Evans, GA – Horace Lee Crawley, loving husband of Billie Pope Crawley, passed away on March 13, 2014 at his residence. He was 85 years old.

Mr. Crawley was a native of Hamlet, NC, but had lived in the Augusta area since 1993. After graduating from Hamlet High School in 1946, Mr. Crawley joined the Army as a PFC and worked himself up to the rank of Major. He served in Korea and Vietnam earning the Army Commendation Medal, Korean Service Ribbon and UN Service Ribbon. He retired after 21 years of service. Upon retiring from the Army, Mr. Crawley was employed by PYA Monarch for 21 years serving as a Sales Representative, District Manager, Division Manager, and Chain Accounts Manager. After 2 retirements, Mr. Crawley went on to open the 5 Star Deli in Martinez. He and his family ran the business for 5 years.

Mr. Crawley was a member of First Assembly of God in Lincolnton, GA where he lived for 15 years before moving to Evans, GA. He was also a member of the Elks for 61 years.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Billie Pope Crawley; his three sons, David Lee and wife Connie of Fort Mill, SC, Timothy James and wife Debra of Grovetown, GA, Robert Alan and wife Tracy of Augusta, GA; his three grandchildren, Sherry Schnackenburg and husband Robert, Christi Davis and husband Jeremy, and Ashlee Crawley; three great-grandchildren, Grant Taylor, Rylie Davis, and Trey Schnackenburg; sister, Frances Presnell of Rockingham, NC, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dock Crawley and Sara Crawley Beck, two sisters, Doris Ann Skipper and Mary Charles Wright.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, March 16, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at First Assembly of God, Thomson Highway in Lincolnton, GA with Pastor Lanis Lewis and Pastor Terry Bonds officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum Section. Pallbearers will include his 2 sons, Timothy and Robert, Allen Walker, Steve Tuten, Randy Nessmith and Don Chalker. U.S. Army Military Honor Guard will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Youth Ministry of Lincolnton Assembly of God, headed by Pastor Chip Woodall, 328 May Avenue, Lincolnton, GA 30817.
