Martinez, GA – Hubert Wallace Duffie entered into rest on Thursday, May 24, 2012 after a prolonged illness. He was 85.

Graveside services will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at the Old Abilene Cemetery with Reverends Dave Dillard and Terry Doss officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside.

He is survived by his two daughters Suzanne Duffie Painter and Gail Duffie Stebbins (Clay), four grandchildren Emily Suzanne Painter, Doyle Richard Painter III (Leslie), Mary Eleanor Stebbins, Catherine Ware Stebbins and three great grandchildren.

Hubert was a lifelong member of Warren Baptist Church. He had served, prior to the onset of his illness, as a Charter Member and President of the Exchange Club of Columbia County, President of the Augusta Builders Exchange, and President of the Augusta Contractors Association. He and his beloved wife Eleanor founded H.W. Duffie Construction in 1960. Several of his many projects include Paine College Gilbert Lambert Chapel, Sanctuary Augusta First Baptist Church, Sanctuary Warren Baptist Church, Sanctuary First Presbyterian Church Augusta, Sanctuary Covenant Presbyterian, Sanctuary Aldersgate Methodist Church, Sanctuary Grace Methodist North Augusta, Augusta Country Club, Scottish Rite Temple and many schools in Columbia and Richmond Counties.

Hubert was awarded the honor of Master Mason for more than 50 years of service with the Martinez Masonic Lodge #710 F&AM. In 1980 he urged the construction of a library in Columbia County and he donated the land for the Warren C. Gibbs Memorial Library. He was a graduate of the Academy of Richmond County, attended the University of Oklahoma and graduated from Milligan College through the V-12 U S Naval Scholarship Program.

The family extends special thanks to Loulie Driggers dear friend and company secretary, his medical doctor Barry Tarpley, MD and his faithful caregivers LaTonya Nugin, Dorothy Darrison, Charlis Williams and Angela Wallace.
