Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Tuesday, January 5, 2016, Mr. Hugh James Simon, 81, husband to JoAnne Sawyer Simon.

Hugh was a native and lifelong resident of Augusta. He was Past Master of John S. Davidson Lodge, Scottish Rite 32° Mason and York Rite, member of Ali Temple Shrine and Morocco Temple Shrine, and Charter President of the Columbia County Shrine Club. He served as Treasurer at a local golf club for 35 years and was an avid golfer. Hugh started working on a paper route at the early age of 9 and was a self-employed accountant for 51 years. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, clients, and golf buddies.

Family members, in addition to his wife, include his daughter: Donna J. Simon; son: Darryl Sawyer Simon (Le); granddaughters: Sara Ashley Curtis, Amy Le, Brenda Le, and Emily Thuan; great grandson: Hunter; brother: Paul S. Simon (Carolyn); nieces: Bunny Simon Williams, Sabrina Simon Rush, and Gail Simon McGahee; nephew: Joey Simon; friend for over 75 years: E.C. Helmly; and his golf buddy: Lanier Savage. His is preceded in death by his father, Roswell L. Simon, Sr.; mother, Dorothy Sanders Simon, and brother, Roswell L. Simon, Jr.

The family would like to thank his hospice nurses, Kay Harris and Lee Triaga, hospice chaplain, Xavier Creekmur, and Dr. Jeremy Wells and his loving staff for their care.

A memorial service will be Thursday, January 7, 2015 at 7:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607.
