IDELLE FLETCHER LACKEY
Evans, GA - On July 4, 2022, Idelle left the bonds of an earthly body and was greeted by her Savior, Jesus Christ, and received her heavenly body. She was 92 years old and the older daughter of William Thomas and Mae James Fletcher. She is survived by her sister, Jean Fletcher Bugg of Milledgeville, Ga.
Idelle was born in Augusta, Ga., and raised in Hephzibah. She attended Richmond County schools and graduated from Tubman High School in 1947. She married Percy Walker (PW) Anderson, Jr., later that year. She met her future husband when making a visit to Oliver General Hospital as a part of her church group visiting wounded veterans. Idelle worked part-time during her marriage but was primarily a homemaker and mother to her three surviving sons: William Keith Anderson (Kathy), Russell Fletcher Anderson and Murray James Anderson (Bea). She had one son, Robert Kelly Anderson, who died at birth. PW died in 1966 and Idelle attended Augusta College for two years before accepting a job with Civil Service at Fort Gordon.
She married Major Paul Lackey (USAF) in 1971. Idelle retired from Civil Service 1992 as a budget analyst in the Comptroller’s Office. Idelle was an active member of Mount Lebanon Baptist church for most of her life where she taught Sunday Bible Study and sang in the choir. The years after her retirement were spent caring for her parents and traveling with Paul.
She was kind, compassionate and generous with her time especially when it involved with her six grandchildren: William Daniell Anderson (deceased), Scott Fletcher Anderson, Jaime Anderson Greene, Ansley Anderson Graffius, Thomas Anderson and Kimberly Marie Anderson. She was also blessed with two great grandchildren: Bailey and Beckett Greene.
The family wishes to acknowledge the staff of the Arbor, at Brandon Wilde Assisted Living, for their dedicated help during the last months of her life.
If so desired the family requests memorial contributions be made to Mount Lebanon Baptist Church, 3965 Deans Bridge Road, Hephzibah, Ga., 30815.
A service of remembrance will be held in the Memorial Garden of the First Baptist Church of Augusta at 10:00 am on July 30, 2022. Dr. Rodger Murchison will officiate.
