Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Thursday, January 09, 2014, Mr. J. Tom Lifsey, 60, loving husband of Cyndy Lifsey.

Tom graduated from Glenn Hills High School in 1971 and from the University of Georgia in 1977. He remained an avid Dawgs fan until the end, selling programs at home games for 34 years. Tom loved the Masters and caddied at the Augusta National Golf Club for over a decade. This gave him the opportunity to play the course many times.

Tom was very active in the Builders Association of Metro Augusta. He was made an honorary lifetime member in 2013. He served in many capacities including President in 2009. He was named Homebuilder of the Year in 2003 and 2006.

Tom volunteered to teach his mother’s Sunday School class, “The Willing Workers of Hillcrest Baptist Church,” a group of “little old ladies” who loved him like a son. He continued to teach this class even after his mother passed away until he became ill.

Family members in addition to his wife include sons: Jim Lifsey, Jacob Lifsey; stepsons: Trey Johnson and wife Robin, Jeremiah Johnson and wife Nora; stepdaughters: Jennifer Brown and husband Jeff, and Sarah Johnson; Father: Leonard Lifsey; sisters: Mary Schroer and husband Tim, Judy Love and fiancé, Nathan Youngblood; and brothers: Lenny Lifsey and wife Gay and John Lifsey and wife Shahnaz. He is preceded in death by his mother, Mayme Lifsey. He was known as “Uncle Tom” and “Papa Tom” to many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 13, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Dr. Gordon Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Al Mills, Michael Valades, Dennis Allen, Nathan Youngblood, Tim Schroer, Bart Chandler, and Jody Patton. Honorary pallbearers will be the Executive Committee of the Builders Association of Metro Augusta.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Point Ministries at P.O. Box 31064, Augusta, GA 30903 where he served as a founding Board Member. The Point Ministries is a Christian shelter for homeless high school and college-aged girls.
