Jack Eugene Garrard
Augusta, GA – Jack E. Garrard, 94, husband of Laverne Powell Garrard, passed away, May 11, 2015 at home. Funeral services will be held graveside, at Westover Memorial Park, Thursday, May 14, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Gary DeMore and Rev. Terry Phillips officiating.
Mr. Garrard was born in Augusta, GA on November 27, 1920. He graduated from Richmond Academy and Young Harris College and was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. As a member of the “Greatest Generation”, he served as a Fire Direction Sergeant with the 266th Field Artillery Battalion. After the war he went to Bear Wheel Alignment School in Rock Island, Illinois and worked as a front end mechanic at Davidson Auto Service in Augusta for 43 years. He was a lifelong member of St. John United Methodist Church and was Superintendent of the Sunday School for five years and taught Junior High School for several years. He was a devoted member and song leader of the Henry Bible Class.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Crawford G. Garrard, Sr. and Ruth Greene Garrard, and by his two brothers, Crawford G. Garrard, Jr. and Roy L. Garrard, and his first wife, Blanche Thames Garrard. In addition to his wife, Laverne, he is survived by his sons, Thurston Garrard (Lynn) and Arden E. Garrard. Mr. Garrard had two grandchildren, Laura Garrard Fuller (John) and Jeffrey T. Garrard (Cindy) and five great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
