Augusta, Ga. – Jack Wade Wilson, 87, loving husband of Elizabeth Dianne Wilson, passed away peacefully at home on November 1, 2022, following a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Jack was born in the old University Hospital in Augusta, Ga on March 10, 1935, to Dan Frank Wilson, Sr. and Blanche Evelyn Wade Wilson.
He grew up in Waynesboro, Ga. and attended Waynesboro High School where he played football, basketball, baseball and played in the band. He was active in the National Guard in 1955 and attended Basic Radar School in El Paso, Texas. He graduated from Southern Technical College in 1959 with a degree in Electronic Technology and went to work for the Federal Aviation Administration until his retirement following 35 years of service.
A devout Christian, Jack loved being a member of Trinity-on-the-Hill United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School and Disciple Bible Study. He served on the Administrative Board and as President of Methodist Men and was a faithful member of the Damren Sunday School Class. He also served for years at the Soup Kitchen and worked building houses for Habitat for Humanity with fellow church members.
Jack traveled extensively and loved golf, playing regularly with his senior group at Forest Hills Golf Club. Jack was also an avid Georgia Bulldog fan and enjoyed watching the games with his football group, where he could be heard shouting “Touchdown Georgia!” by nearby neighbors.
Jack also enjoyed spending time with his large, blended family and especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jack is survived by his wife of 40 years, Elizabeth Dianne Wilson. Family members include his son: Michael Wilson; daughter: Angela Johnson; daughter-in-law: Nicole Wilson; stepdaughters: Deborah Costa (Cliff) and Dawn Haygood (Steve); grandchildren: Ashlyn Wilson, Alexandra Wilson, Chandler Johnson, Dalton Johnson, Kelsey Costa, McKenna Costa, Trevor Haygood, Devin Haygood; and great grandchildren: Peyton and Paisley Beasley. In addition to his parents, Jack is preceded in death by his son: Jack Wade Wilson Jr.; brother: Dan Frank Wilson, Jr; sister: Sarah Wilson and son-in-law: Bobby Johnson.
The family would like to thank loyal caregivers Deidre Scott and Charlene Jefferson for the loving care and essential support provided during his final months.
A visitation will be held at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors on Davis Road on Thursday, November 3, 2022 from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. The funeral will be held at Trinity-on-the-Hill United Methodist Church on Friday, November 4, 2022 at 2:00 P.M., with Rev. Scott Hearn and Rev. Roy McVeigh officiating. The burial will directly follow at Westover Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Tony Arnold, Harold Nelson, Robert Eubank, Robert Smalley, Keith Peoples and Ron Youngsman. Honorary Pallbearers are the Damren Class, the Forest Hills Seniors Golf Group and Football Group.
