Martinez, GA – Entered into rest Thursday, May 28, 2009 at Lake Crossing, Mr. Jackie Gene Jones, Sr., 77, husband of the late Naomi Cherry Jones.
Mr. Jones was a native of Summerville, GA but spent most of his life in Augusta. He attended Richmond Academy and joined the U.S. Army. After returning from the Army he returned to Augusta to work for the Graniteville Co. at King Mill. After a short period of time he took a job with the Augusta Police Department. He rose to the rank of Lieutenant during his 30 years of service and attained an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Georgia Military College. Mr. Jones was a member of the GA Peace Officers Association and was a Baptist.
He was a very faithful husband and dad who loved his children and grandchildren and worked off duty to give his family what they needed.
Family members include his sons: Frank D. Jones of Summerdale, AL, Jackie G. Jones, Jr. of Aiken, J. Patrick Jones of Martinez; daughter: Joan Peggy Cooper of Martinez; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and brother: Thomas Jones of Aiken.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 30, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Dewayne Anderson officiating. Pallbearers will be David Cooper, Ronnie Cooper, Mike Cooper, Keith Cooper, Dan Cooper and Victor Jason. Honorary pallbearers will be former Augusta Policemen. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2607 Commons Blvd., Augusta, GA 30909.
