Jacob Doyle Blazer
April 26, 1920 - December 8, 2009
Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at The Place at Martinez, Mr. Jacob “Jake” Blazer. He was the widower of his loving wife of 62 years, Eleanor Marie Blazer, who predeceased him in death April, 2009.
Born April, 1920, Mr. Blazer was a native of Cook County, Parrotsville, Tenn., the son of R. Oscar Blazer and Gussie C. Blazer.
Mr. Blazer first enlisted in the Army in 1938 at the age of 18 and was sent to Panama where he remained until 1941. Following two years in the states, he was sent to Europe in 1943 and saw action with General Patton’s Third Army. A member of a tank battalion, Mr. Blazer was in the landing at Omaha Beach. In 1969 he was assigned to Ft. Bliss, Texas where he served as Liason Representative to the White Sands Missile Range until his retirement in 1971, completing 32 years of service. During this time he and his wife resided in El Paso, Texas where he attended East Wood Baptist Church and was a member of the El Paso Masonic Lodge. Upon his retirement, he and his wife returned to the Augusta area and resided in Martinez for many years. He was a member Warren Baptist Church.
Mr. Blazer is survived by his sister, Carolyn McKinney of Newport, Tenn. Also left to cherish his memory, are members of his wife’s family, her sisters, Mary McGahee of Dearing, GA, Lilllie and John Gay and Marguerite and Bill Williams, both of Augusta, and several nieces and nephews.
In accordance with his wishes, a brief cryptside service will be held Friday, December 11, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at Bellevue Memorial Park with Rev. Wayne Bruner officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, Mr. Blazer requests that a contribution be made to one’s favorite charity.
