Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, Jacqueline Wooten Henry, 75, loving wife of 43 years to Keith Henry.
Jackie was born in the Panama Canal zone to the late Paul and Martha Wooten. Her early years were spent in Jacksonville, Florida where she attended Robert E. Lee High School from 1963 to 1966. Jackie matriculated to Mercer University for two years and then transferred to the University of Georgia. In Athens, she was a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. Jackie was always interested in Social Work and achieved her Master of Social Work at the University. After school she took a job at the Veteran’s Hospital in Augusta, Ga. where she met Keith. They married in 1980 and after Keith finished graduate school they moved to Atlanta.
Jackie lived and raised a family in Atlanta. Jackie was a member of the Northside Methodist Church where she was active in Sunday School and Banquet Bible Study. Jackie was very active in her son’s schools, the Westminster Schools of Atlanta and St. Pius Academy. She was famous for her numerous volunteer activities but in particular with the Buckhead Christian Ministry and My Sister’s House where she helped provide for the working poor.
Jackie made lifelong friends in Atlanta, including the “Beach Group”, her neighborhood, and her regular Bridge group. She was a member of North Buckhead Home and Garden Club. She loved her home, and many said she had a special sense of design which she applied both in her house and working in her garden.
Keith and Jackie moved back to Augusta to retire in 2015. Jackie quickly joined Trinity on the Hill Methodist Church where she was a member of the Pairs and Spares Sunday School Class. She was also active in the Spade and Trowel Garden Club. While in Augusta, she fulfilled a lifelong ambition and was certified as a Master Gardener. Her home, her church, and her volunteer work at the Heritage Academy kept her busy.
Jackie was noted for her smile and her ability to make people feel at ease. Through a long illness she kept a sense of humor and tried to not let people feel sorry for her. She will be missed by everyone that knew her.
Surviving family members, in addition to her husband, include her sons: Justin Keith Henry (Kimberly) and Baxter Paul Henry and several extended family members.
Special thanks to the AU Health professionals who worked so hard and so long to help her.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, March 12, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. in Westover Memorial Park with Rev. Roy McVeigh officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Spade and Trowel Garden Club and the Pairs and Spares Sunday School Class.
