James A. “Jim” Watwood
Grovetown, GA – Entered into rest April 11, 2011, James A. “Jim” Watwood, 83, husband of Mrs. Barbara M. Watwood.
Mr. Watwood was born in Birmingham, Ala. and raised in Atlanta. He lived in Woodstock for 30 years then moved to Grovetown, July of 2007. Mr. Watwood retired from the City of Atlanta Fire Dept. after 28 years. He retired from GA Army National Guard, 179th Field Artillery, 48th Division, 3rd Army after 20 years. Mr. Watwood was a Deacon and Boy Scout Leader at Ben Hill Presbyterian in Atlanta. He was an Elder at Heritage Presbyterian Church in Acworth where he began the ROMEO’s and Poker Club for seniors. Mr. Watwood was a member of Saint Andrew Presbyterian Church, men’s club and Sunday School Class. Jim’s avocation was in creating stained glass. In addition to window hangings for individuals all over the United States, he created the windows at Heritage Presbyterian Church in Acworth and Sixes Presbyterian Church in Canton, GA. Jim was a true friend, loving husband, father and a fun and spirited Grandpa for his grandchildren.
Family members in addition to his wife include sons: Dr. Britt Watwood (Linda) of Richmond, VA, Richard Watwood (Terri) of Decatur, AL, David Watwood (Sherre) of Augusta; grandchildren: Melissa Frail, Dr. Stephanie Watwood, Leigh Watwood, Charles Watwood, Jordan Watwood, Aaron Watwood, Mary Grace Watwood, Luke Watwood, the late Annie Watwood; great grandchildren: Alex Frail, Molly Frail, Jack Frail, Marin Roman and Elliott Roman.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Saint Andrew Presbyterian Church with Rev. Edward Rees officiating. Interment will follow in Bellevue Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Jordan Watwood, Aaron Watwood, Luke Watwood, George Dunaway, Chuck Brockett, and Frank Prince.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Saint Andrew Presbyterian Church, Building Fund, 3551 Wheeler Road Augusta, GA 30909-6500.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, one hour before the service at 10:00 A.M., in the Hunt Hall at Saint Andrew.
