James (Jimmy) W. Claxton of 557 Furys Ferry Road, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at Piedmont Hospital.
Jimmy was born August 18,1947 in Augusta, Georgia, which remained his lifetime home. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 46 years, Faye Butler Claxton and sons, Chad Butler Claxton and infant son, Blake Butler Claxton and his parents Odell (Dell) Brown Claxton and James Luther Claxton. He is survived by his sister, Sandra (Sissy) Brown Claxton of Evans, GA and other loving family members.
Jimmy had a strong Christian faith, growing up as a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church and later Warren Baptist and Lincolnton Baptist Churches. He graduated from Richmond Academy and Augusta University. He began his successful financial career with several leadership positions in banking, including Georgia Railroad Bank. Later he joined American Express and Ameriprise Financial Services as a Financial Advisor where he retired.
Throughout his career he received numerous awards in recognition of his outstanding achievements. He and Faye particularly enjoyed the many trips to Hawaii awarded for his accomplishments.
Jimmy’s greatest joy in life was watching his son, Chad excel in baseball, swimming and other sports. In early years, Jimmy enjoyed golf that later turned to boating and fishing with family and friends at their lake house and beach condo.
He had a passion for watching the stock market and UGA football. Jimmy served as Past President of the Kiwanis Club as well as Past President and National Life Member of the Sertoma Club.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers and friends at The Claiborne at Westlake for their kindness and loving care.
The family will receive friends Friday morning, December 16 from 10 until 11am with a service immediately following in the chapel at Thomas Poteet & Son, 214 Davis Rd., Augusta GA, 30907. Pastor Dave Dillard of Warren Baptist Church will officiate the service with interment immediately following at Westover Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Warren Baptist or the American Heart Association.
