James Franklin (Frank) Strother, Sr. was called Home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 4, 2012.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 29 years, Lillian Weathersbee Strother, and his wife of 32 years, Ramona Morris Strother, and two brothers, Joseph Strother and Clarence Bynes Strother. He is survived by two sons, James Franklin Strother, Jr., and Rodney Wayne Strother (Linda), and two daughters, Cheryl Ruth Faglier (Don) and Janet Lee Grooms (Darrell); seven grandchildren, Lauren Rider, Jessica Thompson, Zachary Strother, Wyatt Strother, Chadwick Faglier, Derek Faglier and Tyler Grooms; and three great-grandchildren, Finley Rider, Hagen Rider, and Trevor Faglier.

Mr. Strother was a native of Rocky Ford, GA but lived the majority of his life in the Augusta area. He graduated from Richmond Academy in 1944 and worked as a Carrier for the Augusta Chronicle-Herald as a lad. He was named Top Honor Award Winner for the Augusta Herald in 1944 for selling 136,225 ten cent war stamps. Mr. Strother joined the Navy in 1944 during World War II and served until 1946 attaining the rank of Seaman 1st Class. He was a printer by trade and was owner of Strother’s Printing, Inc. since 1963. He continued his daily visits to the shop, as he called it, until early April 2011.

Mr. Strother was an active member of Abilene Baptist Church and Jimmy Dixon’s Adult Co-ed Sunday School Class. He was Past Master of John S. Davidson Lodge and a member of the Scottish Rite Guard. He was an avid Georgia Bulldog supporter and spent many years on the roads between Augusta and Athens cheering on his beloved Bulldogs.

Funeral Services will he held on Thursday, March 8, 2012, at 3:00 PM at Abilene Baptist Church with the Rev. William Harrell officiating. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and dear friend, Jody Dickson. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Abilene Baptist Church Building Fund.
