James Medicus Grubbs III, Age 65, died peacefully with his family at bedside, on November 7th 2024 in their home in North Augusta SC, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Med was born in Barnwell, SC on June 6, 1959 to Rose Mahaffey Grubbs and James Medicus Grubbs, Jr. He graduated from Barnwell High School and completed 2 years of college. He joined his father in the family furniture business where he remained for 16 years. He attended Aiken Tech and completed the Home Inspection certification course. Med began his home inspection career with Hargrove Home Inspection Service, where he remained until his death. He was the owner of Medicus Metal Roofing Solutions.
Family members include his loving wife: Cindi Grubbs; stepson: Trey Neal and sister: Rosanne Grubbs. He is also survived by many cousins from the Grubbs and Mahaffey sides of the family.
Med was Co-Founder and President of the Souls of Sobriety Motorcycle Club. Med was instrumental in the organization of the annual Souls for Santa event that sponsored “Christmas” for many children whose family members were in recovery. Med was also a member in good standing in the program Alcoholics Anonymous, having celebrated over 18 years of continuous sobriety. He lived the example of how the AA message is shared with unconditional love. He walked the walk and talked the talk and believed in the responsibility that whenever anyone, anywhere, reached out for help, he was responsible in showing others that unconditional love. Med’s favorite saying was “Don’t let the gifts from God take you away from God.”, and he took that very seriously.
The funeral service will be held Sunday, November 10, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son Funeral Directors on 214 Davis Road. Reverend Alan Faulkner will be officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service at 10:00 a.m. The casting ceremony will begin at 2:30 at Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Souls of Sobriety, whom Med considered family.
In lieu of flowers please make memorial contributions to The Hale Foundation, 402 Walker St, Augusta, GA 30901.
