James Raymond "Jim" Holden

James Raymond “Jim” Holden, 86, of Martinez, Ga., died Aug. 15, 2023. The son of the late John William “Bill” Holden Sr. and Eleanor Reeves Holden, Jim was born in 1936 in their Augusta home. He attended William Robinson School and Richmond Academy where he met the girl who would become his wife, Elizabeth “Boots” Whitten. Jim graduated from Richmond Academy in 1954 and served in the U.S. Naval Reserve and attended Georgia Tech and Wofford College, where he graduated in 1959. Jim and Boots started a family in Atlanta, and later moved to Augusta where Jim started his career in real estate with Augusta’s Blanchard & Calhoun. In 1971, he moved with wife, daughter, and son to St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands to sell property for the Evans family, and when they returned to the states, he built a home on land in Appling and founded Holden Land Company. Jim enjoyed sailing and camping at the Augusta Sailing Club and was an aviation enthusiast with Augusta’s Chapter 172 of the Experimental Aircraft Association. Jim is survived by Boots, his wife of 65 years; daughter Michelle Holden Paschal and son-in-law, Barry Lloyd Paschal, and son James Raymond “Jimmy” Holden Jr.; brother, John William “Bill” Holden Jr. and Paula Harwell; grandchildren Essa Elizabeth Paschal Jones and husband Gregory Jones, Eleanor Jane Paschal Dosch and husband Matthew Dosch, and Annie Grace Paschal; great-grandsons Rivers Griffin Jones and Grey Whitten Jones, and great-granddaughter Sadie Michelle Dosch; brother-in-law Wayne Edward Whitten and wife Michele Whitten; nephews John William “Bill” Holden III and wife Donna Holden, Randolph Owen “Randy” Holden; great-nieces, Carson Leigh Holden and Mary Reeves Holden; beloved caregivers Tonya Dent, James Jones and Shelia Palmer; and faithful companion Kaylee. Jim’s family also expresses appreciation for the assistance of Regency Hospice. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to When HELP Can’t Wait at www.whenhelpcantwait.com The family will visit with friends from 3-5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, at the home of Jim’s daughter, Michelle, at 828 Jasmine Trail, Evans, Ga.
