Mr. James I. Weathers, Sr.
Augusta, GA – Mr. James I. Weathers, Sr., age 85, passed away peacefully in his home with his daughter and son at his side. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of fifty-five years, Mary Frances Creech Weathers. She was his soul mate and love of his life.
He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1950. He joined Georgia Power Company in 1953 as a Distribution Engineer in Thomson, GA. He also served as District Superintendent in Albany, GA, when he was transferred to Atlanta, GA and then finally Augusta, GA in 1973 where he served as the Division Operating Manager until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of the Fleming Lions Club, Junior Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Exchange Club of Augusta, Covenant Presbyterian Men’s Group, Ambassadors Club of Georgia Power and the Retired Division Operating Managers/Division Superintendents. Mr. Weathers also served in the United States Army and Navy.
Family members include his son: James Isaac Weathers, Jr. and his wife Lynn of Martinez, GA; daughter: Leanne Weathers Mulherin and her husband Eddie of Augusta, GA; four grandchildren: David James Weathers and wife Brittany of Martinez, GA, Steffany Lynn Weathers of Valdosta, GA, Hannah Elizabeth Mulherin and Matthew Edward Mulherin; one great-grandchild: Layla Kennedy Weathers; and sister: Ella Banks Boyle of Black Mountain, NC.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at Covenant Presbyterian Church with Rev. Rob Watkins officiating. Interment will follow the service at Westover Memorial Park. Active pallbearers include: Jim Bright, Kenny Newsome, Nat Newsome, Hugh Dobbins, Matthew Gibbs, and Bryan Gibbs. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Covenant Presbyterian Men’s Group.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Georgia Power Family House, Inc. BIN # 10196 in memory of James I. Weathers, Sr. at 241 Ralph McGill Blvd. NE, Atlanta, GA 30308.
