Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Saturday, December 10, 2011 at Georgia War Veteran’s Home, Mr. James Joseph Brennan, 91, husband of the late Mildred “Millie” W. Brennan.

Mr. Brennan was a charter member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Columbus, GA, a member of St. Mary on-the-Hill Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus (Fourth Degree) Patrick Walsh Council. Mr. Brennan served as a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal with 1 Bronze Star for Air Offensive of Japan Campaign, the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Medal with 1 Bronze Star for Ardennes Campaign, and the American Theater Victory Medal. Mr. Brennan retired from Southern Bell and was a lifetime member of Telephone Pioneers- Dogwood Chapter. He was formerly a member and past president of Exchange Club of Columbus and the Rotary Club of Atlanta. Mr. Brennan was an avid bridge player.

Family members include his daughters: Rosemary Hood of Franklin, TN, Helen Darnell (Mike) of Blue Ridge, GA, Elf Tennille (Charlie) of Greenville, MS, Ange B. Merry (Woody) of Augusta; grandchildren: Jenn Wallace (Shane) of Sugar Hill, GA, Jeffrey Hood (Brit) of Nassau Bahamas, Kristen Franklin (Michael) of Atlanta, GA, Jared Darnell (Laurie) of Missoula, MT, Lauren Cole (Richard) of Blue Ridge, GA, Dean Tennille of Starkville, MS, Brad Merry (Martha) of Augusta, Rachel Cagle (Will) of Washington, DC; 10 great-grandchildren and sister Bennie Stoughton of Atlanta, GA. Mr. Brennan was preceded in death by his son Michael Anthony Brennan.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, December 15, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. at Park Hill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Rd, Columbus, GA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory in honor of his great-great-nephew, Brennan Simkins, to “Press on Fund”, 1117 Perimeter Center West, Suite N-402, Atlanta, GA 30338.

A Vigil for the deceased will be held Wednesday evening at 6:00 P.M. at Thomas Poteet and Son and the family will receive friends until 7:00 P.M.
