James "Jim" A. Newton

Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on September 4, 2024, James Albert Newton, 77, loving husband of Katherine “Kathy” Newton.

Jim was born locally at University Hospital on October 18, 1946 to Emma and James B. Newton. He graduated from Carlisle Military Academy in Bamburg, South Carolina. Jim wed his beloved wife of 44 years, Kathy, on July 3, 1980. He served in the United States Navy for four years after graduation and was a top professional salesman for over forty years until his retirement. He was a history buff who loved Motown and Steelers football. Jim was happiest when surrounded by his family – especially his grandchildren who called him “Pop.” He loved fiercely and always told everyone how much he loved them multiple times before parting ways. His big laugh, kind smile, and warm hugs will be greatly missed.

 Family members in addition to his wife Kathy include his children: Julie Magallanes, Katie Strickland (Scott), Carl Cox (Patches); grandchildren: Jasmine, Mason, and Victor, Luke and Ruby, Broc, Brett, Chandler and Jayden, and sister: Nell Lanier (John). He was preceded in death by his parents James and Emma Newton.

 Services will be private with Dr. Stephen Cutchins officiating.
