Mr. James “Jimmy” W. Phillips
AUGUSTA, GA – Entered into rest Thursday, May 17, 2012, James “Jimmy” W. Phillips, 90, of Augusta, Georgia.
Mr. Phillips was a native of Augusta where he lived all of his life. He retired as Chief Petty Officer from the U.S. Navy Reserve. He was employed as a Plant Assigner for Bell South for a number of years before retiring from there. Mr. Phillips was a member of Central Christian Church where he was a member of the Hair Bible Class. He was involved in a number of civic clubs and organizations: Telephone Pioneers of America, American Legion Post 63, Hephzibah Agricultural Club, Woodmen of the World, Senior Friends of Augusta, Richmond Reelers and Masters City Square Dance Club.
Mr. Phillips is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Annette Stafford of Augusta and Joan and Gary Harned of Columbia, SC; son, Bob Phillips of North Augusta, SC; brother, Bobby Phillips and his wife Betty of North Augusta, SC, 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva McManus Phillips and daughter, Linda Gail Morris.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 3:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Emmitt Carroll officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Wilson Folk, Gerald Stacks, Tony Tapley, David Dukes, Rusty Kelly, and Harold Gay.
