Augusta, GA – JAMES O. BRADY, Lieutenant Colonel, US Army (retired), entered into eternal rest at Brandon Wilde, Evans, GA, on October 4, 2015.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Eleanor Thomas Brady; daughter Barbara Brady Bice (Ronald) of Martinez, GA; son, James Christopher Brady (Rebecca) of Alexandria, VA; and grandchildren Jonathan Bice (Martinez, GA), Nicholas Brady (Spokane, WA) and Kathleen Brady (Blacksburg, VA).

He was a native of Birmingham, AL, and was preceded in death by his parents, Hattie Towles Brady and James O. Brady, one sister and two brothers. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Augusta and its Trinity Bible Class. He was a Deacon Emeritus and had served as treasurer of the church and Sunday school and as member and Chairman of the Board of Deacons. He loved his Church and was a proud husband, father and grandfather.

He enlisted in the Army in 1940 and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel, Corps of Engineers in 1970. He served as First Sergeant of a field artillery battery in WWII, as a combat engineer platoon leader in the Korean War, was awarded a battlefield commission, and served on the Army General Staff in Vietnam. He graduated from the Engineer School and Atomic Demolition course, and then served as a Special Assignment Officer during tours in Europe. He was a recipient of many awards and citations for his service in WWII, Korea and Vietnam.

After retiring from the Army he served as a Senior Administrator with the Georgia Department of Labor, retiring in 1985. He volunteered with the Downtown Cooperative Church Ministries as a Board member and as President for 12 years. He also served as a board member with the Senior Citizens Advisory Board, US Postal Service.

He was a life member of the US Army Constabulary Association, member of the American Legion, and member of local and national chapters of the Military Officers Association of America and the US Golf Association.

He loved to play golf and had the pleasure of playing with his son in Germany, Ireland and many fine courses throughout the United States.

He met his future wife while stationed at Fort Gordon in 1944. He always considered himself the most fortunate of men, marrying the girl of his dreams and having two loving children and three wonderful grandchildren.

He chose cremation. A memorial Service will be in the Georgia Room at Brandon Wilde at 4275 Owens Rd., Evans, GA at 2pm on Saturday, October 17, 2015.
