James R. Wren
Retired Augusta Housing Authority

Martinez, GA – Mr. James Rudolph Wren, 81, went to be with his Lord Monday, October 18, 2010. Mr. Wren was born in Jefferson County near Wrens, Georgia, July 17, 1929, to the late Lillian Shirley and the late Henry Forrest Wren, Sr.

Mr. Wren lived in the Augusta area most of his life. He retired from the Augusta Housing Authority (AHA) where he worked for 30 years and retired as Assistant Director of Maintenance. He was the former owner of Wren’s Auto Salvage and achieved his financial wealth through investment in several residential properties he purchased throughout his life.

He was known among his friends and family as “J.R.” and many called him a “human calculator”. He liked to “wheel and deal” and was known to buy most anything as long as it was a “good deal”. He loved to stay busy with his hands and always had several projects going on at one time. His family and friends best remember him as a hard worker, for his quick wit, humor and, most of all, for his ingenuity.

Mr. Wren was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Mildred Cozart Wren; brothers: Thomas Eugene Wren, Kenneth Gerald Wren, and Paul Emory Wren, sister Alberta Wren Freeman and his constant companion in the last years of his life, his beloved dog. Boomer.

Mr. Wren will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his four daughters: Kim Mashburn and husband Jim of Peachtree City, GA, Kathy Howland of North Augusta, SC, Vonda Purvis and husband Dale of Manitowoc, WI, Paula Toole and husband Chris of Martinez, GA; nine grandchildren: Amie McMahan, Kimmie Jones, Timothy McCullough, Cassie McCullough, David Tinsley, Johnathon Purvis, Kristen Haynes and husband Mike, Katie Kreider and Joseph Toole; step-granddaughters: April Toole and Katie Toole; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Henry F. Wren, Jr. of Albany, GA; two sisters, Ruby W. McCoy and Earlene W. Gonzalez of Albany, GA,; brother-in-law and close friend: Jack B. Cozart of Martinez, GA: close family friend; Melvin Hankinson of Martinez, GA, as well as many other nieces, nephews, and friends.
