JAMES ALAN RICHARDSON SR
Augusta, GA - U.S. Army 1SG (Ret.) James Alan Richardson Sr. passed away peacefully, on Saturday, March 10, 2018.
A memorial service will be held at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, Day Chapel at 2:00 PM on Friday, March 16, 2018. Interment will occur at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia at a later date. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
Mr. Richardson was born in Royal Oak, Michigan on 25 September 1959 to the late Harry E. Richardson and the late Bernice Richardson Smith. At 17, Mr. Richardson proudly enlisted in the United States Army, following in the footsteps of four generations of Richardsons who served in the United States military. Serving for 25 years, he retired in 2001 as a First Sergeant at Fort Gordon. After his career in the Army, he worked at Savannah River Site as a security specialist. While he was stationed in Germany, in 1996, he coached Mannheim’s Little League baseball team to a second place finish in the European finals. Among the many organizations Mr. Richardson was affiliated with, he was extremely proud to be a member of the Sons of the American Revolution.
Mr. Richardson was survived by his brother Phillip Richardson and his wife, Diane of Savannah, Georgia; two children, James Richardson Jr. and his wife, Renee, of Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska and Angela Richardson of Augusta, Georgia; and grandchild, Charlotte Richardson, who he loved so dearly.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the USS Yorktown Foundation or the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home in Augusta.
