James Larry Tilby

Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Saturday, July 15, 2023, Mr. James Larry Tilby, 80, loving husband of 57 years to Mrs. Linda Spires Tilby.

Family members in addition to his wife include his son Jeff Tilby (Vickie); seven grandchildren: James Tilby (Boper Conklin), Christian Tilby (Natasha), Will Tilby, Kharl Tilby, Trey Tilby, Brad Tilby, and Aria Tilby; sisters: Patricia McCorkle (Don) and Betty Sue Palmer (Stephen). Larry was preceded in death by his son, James Larry Tilby, Jr. and parents, James and Amy Lou “Boots” Tilby and many nieces and nephews.

Larry grew up in Thomson GA and graduated from Thomson High School in 1960, where he played football and ran track. The class of 1960 is probably one of a few who have had reunions every 5 years, then every 3 years then yearly as the group grew older. He attended the University of Georgia with several of his lifelong friends.

He retired from Suntrust Bank in 2005. After retirement he worked with other retirees at the Edisto Island Interpretive Center as well as with the Edisto Beach Turtle Project and other nonprofit organizations on the Island.

Many thanks to our family as well as the SouthEast Hospice staff, especially Suzie, DeAnne and Kayla and our nighttime friend Sylvia and neighbors and friends.

A memorial service will be held Thursday July 20, 2023 2:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in North Augusta, SC with The Rev. Alex Chartier officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
