Augusta, GA – Jane McWilliam Dye, 79, died peacefully at University Hospital on November 3, 2017, following a brief illness.
Jane was predeceased by her husband of over fifty years, Jerry Brooks Dye.
A native of Vicksburg, MS, Jane met and married Jerry while they were both students at North Georgia College. They moved to Jerry’s hometown of Augusta in 1961 following his graduation from Mercer law school.
Jane was a beloved wife and mother. While raising her family, she was an active community volunteer. She was an active member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, where she served on the Altar Guild, and was a regular volunteer at the Christ Church soup kitchen. She was a member of the founding board of directors of Augusta Country Day School, now (now Augusta Preparatory Day School), former President of the Women's Board of University Hospital (where she served as a volunteer for many years), a member of the Guild of Sacred Heart Cultural Center, the Azalea Garden Club, Colonial Dames XVII Century, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Augusta Country Club, among other organizations and activities too numerous to name. In her later years, she worked for over 20 years as an administrator in the emergency room at University hospital.
Jane was the beloved and devoted mother of Jerry B. Dye, Jr., Lynn Dye Smith (Craig), and Laura Dye Evans (Marc), and grandmother of Taylor, Rebecca, William, Anne Travis, Christopher, and Mary Frances. She endeavored to attend every activity she could involving her grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Bonnie, Gay, and Jeanne, and her brother David. She shared with her friends and family her infectious sense of humor, passionate interest in history, literature, music, and yes, politics. She was the first person with whom people wanted to share good news, because she would be more happy and excited than anyone!
The family would like to thank the excellent and compassionate caregivers at University Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Church of the Good Shepherd, 2230 Walton Way, Augusta, Ga. 30909.
A memorial service will take place Monday, November 6, at 11 am at the Church of the Good Shepherd, with the Reverend Robert D Fain officiating. The family will greet friends in the church parish house following the service.
