Jane Stephens O'Donnell

Jane Stephens O'Donnell was born July 15, 1952, and passed away on July 17, 2024, at 12:48 PM in the Eisenhower Army Medical Center on Fort Eisenhower. She spent her life helping others, whether friends, family, neighbors, or community members.

She is survived by her husband Fleming Ware, daughter Buffy Hendricks (Lee), granddaughter Savannah Hendricks Brooks, her husband Nathan Brooks, great grand children Ava, Chase, and Chandler Brooks, (Stepdaughter Amy Ware and Amy's family Michael and Cornelia Shea). In 2012, she met Fleming Ware and joined him in Charlotte, NC, where he worked for Shaw Corporation. She and Fleming, over the twelve years they were together, developed a caring and loving relationship and remained together until she died.

She was preceded in death by her parents Mary Ona and Howard Stephens and by Randy Tullis, her first husband, and John O'Donnell, her second husband.

Jane graduated from high school at the Academy of Richmond County and pursued higher education at Augusta Technical College. She worked for 18 years at the Richmond County Tag Office and later for Annie's Floral Boutique until she retired.

Jane was a collector of lighthouses and a lover of puzzles. She placed lighthouses throughout her home and traveled extensively to visit these landmarks. Her completed and complex jigsaw puzzles also decorated her home, featuring images such as Christmas at the Biltmore House, scenes from the State of Georgia, and several of the Great Smoky Mountains, where she loved to visit annually with friends from Augusta.

She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, located in the Harrisburg community, from 1980 until February 2020 when the church closed due to COVID. In 1980, soon after becoming a member of Christ Episcopal, Jane was among a few people who started a weekly soup kitchen and food pantry to support those in need in the neighborhood. This food service is now called the Community Meal and remains a part of the Harrisburg community.

After the closure of Christ Episcopal, Jane joined Our Savior Episcopal Church, where she served as the assistant treasurer, a member of the finance committee, event volunteer, and community-meal volunteer.

A memorial service will be held at Our Savior Episcopal Church, on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 2:00 PM, followed by a reception in the Parish Hall. Officiates of the funeral service include The Very Reverend Al Crumpton IV, The Reverend Larry Jesion, and The Reverend Deacon Sandy Turner. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park. The date and time of interment is to be determined.
