Augusta, GA – Entered into rest peacefully at her residence on Monday, May 10, 2021, Mrs. Janice Peebles Miller, 79, loving wife of the late Harold Miller.
Janice was born in Augusta at University Hospital to the late Louie Pierce Peebles and Evelyn Herron Peebles. She graduated from Richmond Academy in 1960. She received her Bachelor of Special Education from Augusta University (Augusta College) and her masters and EDS degree from the University of Georgia. She worked at the Richmond County and Columbia County Boards of Education and was passionate about her career as a teacher in Special Education for over 31 years, some of them at Georgia State School Hospital. She ran summer camps and developed the vocational training program in Columbia County for Special Education and was a member of CEC/National Association of Special Education and the Association for Persons with Severe Handicaps. After retirement, she became the Executive Director of the Berry Center in Augusta. Janice was a member of Fleming Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time at Edisto Beach and Tybee Island looking for shark teeth and shells. The loves of her life were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her sisters Delores Adcox and Euclid Alread. She is survived by her son, Curt Miller, daughters, Judy Smith and Wendi Wilson-Hinson, sister, Lynne Cheek, brother-in-law John Adcox and beloved cousin Frank Clark. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Scott Smith (Roxanne), Joseph Wilson, Laura Wilson, and Nick Smith (Kaitlyn), as well as her great grandchildren, Brittney Kezer, Tamra Johnson, Aubrey Smith and Anne Marie Smith.
The memorial service will be held Friday, May 14, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Patrick Latta officiating.
