Janice Wahl

Evans, GA – Entered into rest on Friday, October 14, 2022, Mrs. Janice Gilbert Wahl, 83, loving wife of the late Philip R. Wahl, Sr.

Janice was a native of Jackson, Michigan. She studied Art and Design at Toledo University. In December 1961, she moved to Augusta with her husband Phil as he had accepted a position as the general manager of the Augusta National Golf Club at age 26. For their first year in Augusta, they lived on the grounds of the National in the Tennessee Cabin, before moving to National Hills and later to Montclair subdivision.

Our mother was an amazing person!!

She raised nine children…. Five of her own (3 boys, 2 girls) and Four of her sister’s (4 boys). Her only sister died suddenly from a brain aneurysm at age 34 (and was a single mother of 4). Our parents took guardianship of our cousins, “the Snyder boys” and moved them from Toledo to Augusta in October 1972—Mom was only 33 years old. She was only 39 years old when our father died in a tragic car accident in September 1978. At that fateful moment she became a single parent of 7 boys and 2 girls.

By necessity, she learned how to run an organized and efficient household with daily schedules of chores for each child; buffet style breakfasts; assembly line sandwich bagged lunches; and buffet style dinners. She stretched each dollar as far as it could be stretched, shopping for bargains wherever and whenever she could find them.

Mom loved animals, nature, and the outdoors. She especially loved to explore “the road less traveled” and would pile all of us kids into our 1976 Dodge 12-passenger van for “adventure rides” into the small towns and countryside surrounding Augusta. She was a great storyteller, artist and the quintessential “drama queen”.

Her faith in God and love of reading the word, studying the Bible and all things spiritual kept her centered during the unimaginable stresses of single handedly raising so many children. She was highly respected as a biblical scholar and a spiritual leader among friends and bible study/prayer groups.

After raising all of us kids, she enjoyed traveling to the N.Carolina mountains and abroad with friends and family. She especially loved dining, telling stories, and laughing with her girlfriends! She also enjoyed meeting new friends with like-minded spiritual interests around the world via her computer and the internet. She continued her biblical studies and always reached for a deeper, broader, and higher level of understanding of all spirituality within herself and the universe around us.

In 2012 she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. For over 10 years she battled through every stage of this diabolical and debilitating disease until she could fight no more.

We are so very thankful for Vanessa Raynor, mom’s personal caregiver, nurse and best friend for over 5 years, who sat by her side daily to make sure that her needs were met and served as the family’s eyes and ears. When our visits were restricted by COVID protocols, she held mom’s hand and provided love, friendship, words of encouragement and a warm and caring touch. Mom and our family has been greatly blessed with such a special person in our lives during this time.

On Friday evening, October 14th at approximately 6:15 pm, at the age 83, our dear mother joined her parents, her sister, her husband, her nephew (adopted son), her grandson…and of course, her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ...in HEAVENLY GLORY!! She now possesses the spiritual knowledge, full awareness, and understanding that she has always searched and strived for.

We are very happy knowing that she is at peace now, free from suffering and pain. We will always have many fond memories of mom…this picture of her is one of our favorites. WE LOVE YOU MOM!
