Jayne Garrett Black

Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Thursday, February 27, 2025, Mrs. Jayne Garrett Black, 78, loving wife to the late Coach Danny Black.

Jayne was a native of Augusta and graduate of Richmond Academy. She started attending Brewton-Parker College in 1965, which is where she met her husband, Danny Black. Jayne and Danny married a year in 1966, and she devoted her life to being a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and “mama Jayne” to hundreds of children she helped raise throughout her life.

Family members include her sons: Garrett Black and Christopher Black (Beth); grandchildren: Abby Black (Steven Rice), Brett Black, Carsyn Anderson (Matt), Andrew Black, Brady Black, Teddie Garnett (Michael) and Anna Grace Black; great-grandchildren: Brody Garnett and Brynn Garnett; and sister: Dodda Waldman (David). In addition to her husband, Jayne is preceded in death by her parents: Horace and Elizabeth Garrett; and siblings: Nancy Garrett Phillips, Tom Garrett, and Danny Garrett.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors with Rev. Denny Mack officiating. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Brett Black, Andrew Black, Brady Black, Scott Phillips, Jeff Dowdle, and John Paul Stout.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
