Jean Olliff

Jean Garrison Olliff entered into rest on May 3, 2022. She was born in Russellville, Alabama, the third of six children of Jack and Gladys Garrison. She eventually moved to Augusta and graduated from Butler High School where she met her future husband Cail whom she married in 1968. She then graduated from Georgia Southern College and later attended the University of Georgia where she obtained a Master's degree in elementary education. She taught elementary school for almost thirty years, ultimately retiring from Sue Reynolds Elementary here in Augusta. She deeply loved and positively influenced many little ones in her years of service as a teacher, all the while being a faithful and devoted wife to Cail and a loving and committed mother to her two daughters, Shea and Amanda. After retirement she was blessed with a succession of five grandchildren whom she has cherished, encouraged, and loved very much. She also deeply enjoyed and appreciated the time she she was able to spend in the presence of her own mother, sisters, brothers, and nieces and nephews over the last several years. Additionally, she and Cail cherished spending time with friends and family at Lake Oconee. Last but not least, her Jack Russell terrier, Buster, was a constant source of joy and entertainment for her over the last five years. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church but attended Warren Baptist Church most recently. "Green Jean", as she came to be known after the birth of her first grandchild, will be deeply missed, but we take comfort in knowing that she is at eternal peace and rest in the presence of our magnificent, perfect, and loving triune God.

Family members in addition to her husband include her daughters: Shea Olliff Bates (J. Newton) and Amanda Olliff Rodriguez (Francisco); grandchildren: Jay Newton Bates III, Garrison Cail Bates, Benjamin Olliff Bates, Julian Reed Rodriguez, and her namesake Georgia Jean Rodriguez; and her siblings: Patricia Fanning, June Robinson, Mickey Teasley, and Richard Garrison. She is predeceased by her parents, Jack Garrison and Gladys Garrison, and her brother, Bill Garrison.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Warren Baptist Church with Dr. David McKinley officiating. A private family interment will follow in Eastside Cemetery, Statesboro, GA.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 106 SRP Drive Suite A, Evans, GA 30809 or to Samaritan’s Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
