Mrs. Jeanine Conil Slagter

Augusta, GA – Mrs. Jeanine Conil Slagter, wife of the late Howard C. Slagter, entered into rest Saturday, February 19, 2011 at Eisenhower Medical Center.

Mrs. Slagter was born in Mantes-Gassicourt (S et O) France in 1922. She retired as a medical technologist from the Medical College of Georgia but was still working part time in the Blood Bank until her recent illness. She was a long time member of the Alliance Francaise of Aiken. This year she was to receive the French Legion of Honor medal for her work with the French Resistance and Red Cross during World War II. Mrs. Slagter was interviewed this past year for the Oral History Project of WWII Memories.

Family members include her daughters: Peggy Theriault and husband Pete, Kathy Powell and husband Gary, all of Augusta; three grandchildren: Chief Petty Officer Joseph Theriault and wife Shirlene, Gary Powell, Jr., and wife Michelle, Allyson Catchings and husband Christopher; four great-grandchildren: Taylor Joseph and Dylan Slagter Theriault, Gatlin Edward Catchings, Madison Kuntz; brother, Jacques Conil and wife Georgette of Mantes la Ville, France; and nephew, Giles Conil and wife Katy.


The Funeral Mass will be Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Thaddeus Kiwera celebrant. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Edouard Servy and Colonel Gilles Delaroque. Pallbearers are Scott Gay, Tommy Usry, Jimmy Howard, Fawzi Naji, Amier Naji and Sid Hatfield.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929.
