Jeanne Duncan Harrison

Augusta, GA - Jeanne Duncan Harrison passed away on August 3, 2022, on Hilton Head, SC after a short illness.

Jeanne is survived by her brother: George Harrison; sister: Laura H. Graves (Doug); niece: Anna Winters (Dan); nephew: William Harrison (Gloria Elaine); great nephews: Regan Harrison, Daniel Winters, Harrison Winters; step-mother: Cindy Haskins Harrison. Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents: Fred Harrison and Aurelia Sanken Jernigan; step-daughter: April Varn Welch.

Jeanne graduated from the University of Georgia in 1966, where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority, and remained a passionate Bulldog fan till the end. She received her Juris Doctor from Mercer University in 1970 and returned home to practice law, becoming one of the first female members of the Augusta Bar. She handled a wide range of cases before deciding to specialize in disability law over 40 years ago. In 1995, together with Kip Lamar, she formed the Harrison Lamar law firm. Jeanne was a committed and zealous advocate and took pride in being the voice for those most in need. She was tenacious, skilled, conscientious, and recognized as a true expert in her specialty. She was frequently contacted by other lawyers for advice and guidance, freely sharing her expertise and wisdom. True to her family name, she was also an astute businesswoman and investor.

Jeanne was also devoted to animals. She pampered and spoiled countless dogs and cats over her life. Friends joked that if they were reincarnated, they would like to come back as one of her pets. Her pets were family, accompanied her on road trips, and were always at her side. Jeanne also owned and bred dozens of horses and was a leading figure in the Tennessee Walking Horse world for many years. She was also a major contributor to animal charities and rescue organizations.

Jeanne was a fearless traveller and globetrotter without equal. She travelled extensively throughout Mexico, Europe, and visited Africa on several occasions. She developed many friends on these excursions and was always looking forward to her next trip. Her travels also allowed her to engage in another favorite pastime, collecting art. She had a keen eye for the quirky and eccentric, and her natural decorating skills were widely recognized by friends.

Jeanne was dynamic, charming, and truly one of a kind. She lived a full life on her own terms. Her uniqueness makes her passing particularly painful, but serves also to remind us of how lucky we were to have known her.
