North Augusta, S.C. - Jeffrey Lynn Synan, 67, husband of forty six years to his adoring wife, Kathleen Griggs Synan, entered into rest Tuesday, December 27, 2016 in the comfort of his home with his loving family by his side. True to his personality, Jeff met his battle with Pancreatic cancer head on, displaying astounding courage and defying the odds to the bitter end.
Jeff was born in Abingdon, Virginia and raised in Riverdale, Maryland, graduating from DuVal High School in 1967. Jeff was an avid athlete participating in football, baseball and basketball. He was well known and liked by all of his peers. After high school he attended Pershing College in Nebraska and the University of Maryland.
Jeff and Kathy relocated to Augusta, GA in 1971 where he was a lifelong and dedicated employee of St. Joseph/Trinity hospital for forty five years. Jeff thoroughly enjoyed his time there and truly considered his colleagues family. During his tenure he received many awards and accomplishments. Often he was referred to as "Mr. St. Joseph."
Jeff had many passions one of which was bluegrass music. He was a talented singer/songwriter and played lead guitar in the bluegrass band, "Flatbed." He was also an avid sports fan who rooted hard for his Bulldogs, Braves, GSU Eagles and Redskins.
Jeff was a devoted family man who always stressed the importance of maintaining loving relationships. He was a strong man who wore his heart on his sleeve and never failed to express his love. His favorite place to visit was the Synan home place in West Virginia where he enjoyed making memories with Uncle Russell and Pat Synan and the entire family.
Survivors include his loving wife and high school sweet heart, Kathy; his sister, Joan Betros (Fareed) Nashville, TN; his children, Kimberly Masters (Christopher) Martinez, GA; Stacy Olguin (Rocky) Grovetown, GA; Kelly Angeli (Aaron) Fredericksburg, VA; Christopher Synan Greenville, SC. Jeff was a loving grandfather to seven grandchildren; Taylor and Noah Masters, Makayla, Marciano and Roman Olguin, Sofia and Elena Angeli; two sister-in-laws Bonnie Mims, Augusta, GA, Sandy McCray (Donnie), Marion Station, MD. Jeff also left behind many cousins, aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces.
Jeff was preceded in death by his loving parents, Christine and Irvin Synan; his beloved infant son Russell Nathaniel Synan; his mother-in-law Betty Griggs; his brother-in-laws Larry Mims and Carlton Griggs; sister-in-law Leslie Courville.
The family will be holding visitation Friday, December 30, 2016 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Home, 214 Davis Road, Augusta, GA 30907 (706) 364-8484.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, December 31, 2016 at 1:00pm in the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Carl A. Synan officiating. In accordance with Jeff’s wishes, his ashes will be scattered at the old family home place on Peel Chestnut Mountain in West Virginia at a later date.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Synan, Christopher Masters, Rocky Olguin, David Brooks, Daniel Brooks, Quinn Masi, Rex Meade, and Chris Harwood.
