Martinez, GA – Entered into rest Monday, April 2, 2018, Jerry Gene Collins, 86, loving husband of 62 years to Margie Collins.

Jerry was born on November 9, 1931 to the late Robert and Elizabeth Collins of Collins, GA. A longtime resident of Augusta, then Martinez, he served 13 ½ years in the United States Army completing tours in Korea and Germany, and dedicating over 34 years of service to the United States government concluding with his retirement from the VA Hospital. In his spare time, he enjoyed visiting the mountains and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his sisters: Louise Jarriel and Merle Lewis and brother: Gary Collins.

Family members in addition to his wife include his children: Leisha Schuckers (Lane), Robert Collins, Gene Collins; grandchildren: Bill Oates (Chuck), Jon Oates (Kayla), Beth Scruggs (David), Rachel Mobley (Ty), Steven Collins and seven great grandchildren.

Jerry was truly a wonderful and honorable man who loved God and his family. He will be fondly remembered as a man with a kind, loving heart and will truly be missed. He leaves us all with many wonderful, cherished memories.

A funeral service will be Thursday, April 5, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at Bellevue Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. Johnny Rockefeller officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00 P.M.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
