Jerry Stokes
Appling, GA – Entered into rest Monday, February 5, 2018, Mr. Jerry Edward Stokes, 71, loving husband to Lenoir Stokes.
Born January 14, 1947 in Falls City, Nebraska, Mr. Stokes moved to Harlem, GA with his family and later starred in basketball and baseball at Harlem High School. After graduating from the University of Georgia with a degree in Accounting, he was a plant manager with Milliken & Co. for over 35 years. Following retirement, he continued working as a consultant and representative for Merrow Sewing Machine Company. He was a dedicated Atlanta Braves and UGA football fan. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed playing golf and working around the house. Mr. Stokes was a loving and devoted husband, son, father, and grandfather.
He is preceded in death by his father, Roy Edward Stokes, and his brother-in-law John Warren Mixon. He is survived by his sons: John Stokes (wife Amanda), Andy Stokes (Jenna), and Mike Stokes (Lisa); mother: Evelyn Stokes; sister: Betty Mixon; brother: Gregg Stokes; grandchildren: Gracie, Hannah, Audrey, and Kae Stokes; and many other loving family members.
The funeral service will be Thursday, February 8, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at Damascus Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Hester and Rev. Dave Stockton officiating. Burial will follow in the cemetery at the church.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 P.M., at the church.
