Jimmie Harkey, Sr.
Jimmie Desmond Harkey, Sr., 85, of North Augusta, SC entered into rest at his home, surrounded by his beloved wife, Elsie Harkey, of 63 years, and loving Granddaughter, Elizabeth Lemacks.
Mr. Harkey, a native of Dickens, Texas was born July 31, 1930, to Nellie Virginia Caldwell and Leon Harkey. J.D., as his friends knew him best, served in the United States Marine Corps and loved his country dearly. He went on to graduate from the University of Georgia, and then Augusta Law School. Mr. Harkey operated his own business for many years as a claims adjuster.
J.D. was a beloved husband, father, Papa, avid golfer, follower of Christ, and a best friend to many.
He is preceded in death by his oldest son: Jimmie Desmond Harkey, Jr., loving grandson: Wesley Desmond Lemacks, as well as his parents. Survivors include his three daughters: Valerie Lynne Kiley, Kimberly Cardin and husband H.E., Donna Lemacks and husband Donald, as well as four grandchildren, including Elizabeth “ Mootsie” Lemacks, his heart and soul.
A funeral service will be Saturday, May 7, 2016, at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
