Augusta, GA – Surrounded by his family, Mr. James “Jimmy” Carlos Newsome, Jr., 73, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 7, 2021. He was a loving husband of 56 years to Mary “Jackie” Newsome.

Jimmy was a native and lifelong resident of Augusta. He retired in 1997 from Local 92 as an industrial pipe insulator. He was a Mason, true believer in Christ and a Baptist. Jimmy was Jackie’s best friend for 56 years and a wonderful provider for his family. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, gardener, and jokester.

Family members, in addition to his wife, include his daughters: Marsy Smith (Jimmy), Angie Green (Peter), and Gina Stevens (Bob); mother: Anne Cato; sister: Judy Seay (Hillis); grandchildren: Preston Crews, Cole McDonald, Jacob McDonald, Evan Green, Tyler Newman, and Kaley Newman; and great grandchildren: Daisy, Dakota-Raye, Harper, and Gunner. He is preceded in death by his father, James C. Newsome, Sr., and sisters, Brenda Turnell and Yvonne Newsome.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Wade Sosebee officiating. Interment will follow in Bellevue Memorial Gardens.
