Joan Fischofer

Joan Fischofer was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She entered into rest on Tuesday, December 24, 2024 in Augusta, GA after a prolonged battle with Parkinson’s Disease. She is the wife of the late Arthur Charles Fischofer Jr. and is survived by her daughter Susan Floyd (Robert); sons Craig Fischofer (Holly) and Chip Fischofer (Maggie); her grandchildren: Bryce Floyd, Kelsie Floyd, Brent Vassallo, Connor Fischofer, Emily Fischofer, Elizabeth Fischofer and A. Charles Fischofer IV; her sister Marcia Balonis; and several nieces and nephews.

Joan was a native of Ayer, MA, but lived most of her life in Florida – a short time in Miami before moving to Orlando, and then retiring to Inverness. She was a graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and of NOVA Southeastern University, where she earned a Master of Education and Educational Specialist. She retired after decades spent as a science teacher and Assistant Principal with the Orange County School System. A longtime educator, she continued working during retirement with adults seeking their GED.

Joan loved retreating to Horseshoe Beach, FL, where she enjoyed fishing and scalloping, especially over Fourth of July each year with extended family. A day in Horseshoe wasn’t complete without watching the sunset while listening to “When the Sun Goes Down.” When not at Horseshoe, Joan enjoyed traveling the Caribbean on cruises, sewing, gardening, arts and crafts, and spending time with her grandchildren.

She was a member of St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church in Inverness, FL, where she will be reunited with her husband in the memorial garden. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution: Fort Cooper Chapter, NSDAR, c/o Faeth Houle, 3220 W. Pebble Beach Ct., Lecanto, Florida 34461-7774.The family will hold an intimate memorial service at a later date.
