Augusta, GA – Joddie (Joe) L. Kenny, age 96, entered into his eternal rest at his home on Wednesday, April 19, 2023.
Joe was born on April 12, 1927 in Greensboro, Georgia to the late George Dewey Kenny and Thelmas Aycock Kenny. He graduated from Greensboro High School at the age of 17 and enlisted in the Navy serving two years in the Pacific during WWII. He enrolled in North Georgia College on the GI Bill and graduated with a degree in accounting. Joe married his “sweetheart”, Doris Walker in 1949. After his graduation, they moved to Atlanta, Georgia and he began his career with National Life Insurance Company as a sales agent and was promoted to Staff Manager. He transferred to the Augusta, Georgia office in 1968 as a District Manager and retired after 37 years of service. Joe was a devoted Christian and longtime active member of National Hills Baptist Church until his health declined and he was unable to attend.
Joe was always happy and had a sense of humor. He never said an unkind word about anyone and was the most generous person you could ever meet. He was very patriotic and proudly displayed the American flag. Most of all he adored his “Doris”, loved his children and had a special bond with his grandchildren.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, his two sons: Greg Kenny of Augusta, GA and Philip Kenny (Maryellen) of Anderson, SC; daughter: Jody Hutto (Ray) of Martinez, GA and grandchildren: Lindsey Kenny of Rome, GA, Eric Kenny living and working in Argentina and Rachel Hutto (Sean Gillespie) of Seattle, WA. In addition to his parents Joe is preceded in death by a brother Jimmy Kenny and sister Sybil Stewart.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 29, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Kevin Steele officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
