Augusta, GA – John William Brooks, born May 23, 1929, in Augusta, GA, entered into rest July 9, 2015, at University Hospital in Augusta, GA.

A 1947 graduate of Boys' Catholic High School and attendee of Augusta College, he served as a Sergeant in the Air Force based in Alaska from 1948 to 1951. He retired from IBM after 33 years of employment. John was a 52 year parishioner of St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church.

He was an avid golfer, tennis player, and skier. Member and former president of the Forest Hills Golf Association, he also devoted many years of service to the Georgia State Golf Association working with the youth and rating golf courses.

John is pre-deceased by his father Jabie Alexander Brooks Sr., mother Helen Floyd Stone, brother Jabie Alexander Brooks Jr., and infant daughter Celia Ann Brooks. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marjorie Evans Brooks, daughters Shannon (Kevin) Kelly and Marilyn Claire Brooks, grandchildren Emily and Sarah Kelly, and Jeremy, Sean, and Amelia McLean, and three great-grandchildren. Survivors include his sisters-in-law Marilyn (Bill) Meeks and Lois Bartley Brooks, brother-in-law L.D. (Donna) Evans III, and nine nieces and nephews.

The graveside service will be Monday, July 13, 2015, at Westover Memorial Cemetery, 2601 Wheeler Road, Augusta, GA at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Salvation Army or to the general scholarship fund at Aquinas High School.
