Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Sunday, August 6, 2017, Mr. John Thomas Carter, 84, loving husband of 50 years to the late Mary Elizabeth Carter.

Mr. Carter was a native of Stanly County, NC but lived in Augusta for most of his life. He was a member of New Heights Baptist Church and the Augusta Lions Club. He served in the United States Navy and then began a career in the office supply business.

Family members, in addition to his wife, include his sons: Mitchell Carter, the late Tommy Carter (Tammy), Jeff Carter (Theresa), and Michael Carter: grandchildren: John Jr., Brian, Matt, Scarlett, Christopher, Caleb, Ashley, Blaine, Blair, Rhett and Evan; 18 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, and 1 sister. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bryce and Hattie Carter.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Lloyd Greene officiating. Burial will follow in Bellevue Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be the Augusta Lions Club.
