John “David” Graves
Ret. Letter Carrier
Martinez, GA – David Graves, age 67, was called to his eternal home on June 19, 2011 at University Hospital after a brief battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of 46 years to Sandra Clark Graves.
David was born in Augusta, GA, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Theron Graves. He retired in 2000 from the postal service after 35 years of service, but later found his fulfillment driving a school bus for Columbia County School System.
David was a fighter to the end and an example of one who was at peace with the Lord. He was a loving husband, wonderful father, a mentor to his grandchildren and a “true buddy to his brother”.
David loved his Heavenly Father and always wanted to exemplify the sufficiency and the unsurpassing love of his Savior. He was an example of a great man who had always looked at his salvation as a gift. He always shared the love and grace of Jesus with others so they could come to know Jesus as he did. In his church he served as Music Director for 18 years, taught Sunday School, served as Minister of Mercy, worked in the food pantry, and traveled on several mission trips.
David loved fishing, hunting, NASCAR and drag racing, but most of all traveling with friends and family. His life and testimony will be missed but his legacy will remain. We all long to see him again.
Family members in addition to his wife include daughters: Rhonda Butler of Martinez, Shannon Clark of Columbia, SC and special friend Frank Buchanan who was also David’s friend and caregiver, grandchildren: Christopher Black, Benjamin Todd, John Butler and “his rose” Lauren Butler, brother: Theron Newby Graves and wife Maggie (Sunny), nephews: Daniel Graves and wife Heather, Jason Graves and Liz Burke.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, June 25, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at Grace Fellowship of Augusta, Sibley Rd with Pastor Brian Fields and Rev. Wade Trimmer officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and briefly following the service.

You and your care will never be forgotten. Thank you to Family Physicians of Evans, especially to Dr. Harrover and Dr. Marionneaux for going the extra mile to ensure his comfort and quality of life at the end.
