Augusta, GA – Mr. John Hammond Hill entered into rest Saturday, February 6, 2010 at Hospice of the Golden Isles, Brunswick, GA. He resided on St Simons Island, GA at Magnolia Manor for the last two years.

Mr. Hill was born April 16, 1923 in Augusta, GA. He attended Houghton Grammar School, Richmond Academy High School and graduated in the class of 1941. He was a life long member of St Paul Episcopal Church. He was accepted into the U. S. Coast Guard convoying troops and supplies to Europe. He operated an automobile and truck repair business on the 500 block of Broad St. from 1947 to 1977 as “Hill’s Auto Service”, after retiring from the automobile business, he entered real estate and served as vice president of Noel Schweers Century 21 Company for 15 years retiring in 1991. He was a thirty second degree Scottish Rite Mason, Member of American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was preceded in death by his father, Claude Monroe Hill, mother, Estelle Hammond Hill, wife, Ann Peacock Hill and brother Claude Monroe Hill, Jr.

Family members include: two sons, John Hammond Hill, Jr. of Kennesaw, GA, Stephen Lanier Hill of Commerce, GA and a daughter, Anna Hill Tripp of St Simons Island, GA; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, February 13, 2010 at the Hammond Family cemetery in North Augusta, SC., with the Rev. William K. Dolen officiating. Pallbearers will be Hammond Hill, Steve Hill, Lee Fulmer, Stephen Hill, Brent Tripp and Brent Schwarzrock.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, GA 31525.
