John Marshall Hearne

November 5, 1919 - December 10, 2009

Augusta, GA – John Marshall Hearne, age 90, died peacefully in his sleep with his family around him at his home on Sandy Run Court on December 10, 2009.

He was born on November 5, 1919 in New Orleans, LA. He was raised in Macon, GA., from 1919 to1946. He served as a Marine in World War II and married Erma Adele Harrison of Augusta in 1947. After working at Maxwell Brothers Furniture Company of Augusta from 1947 to 1960, he became manager of Maxwell Brothers Furniture Company of Macon from 1960 to 1972. He and his family returned to Augusta, where he worked with Sherman and Hemstreet Real Estate until he retired. He and his family were members of Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Erma Harrison Hearne; two daughters, Janice Hearne Davison and Alice Hearne Jones; son-in-law, Vincent M. Davison; grandchildren: Christy Davison Clarke, Lindsey Davison Brandenburg, Melissa Anne Jones and Marshall Casey Jones; great-grandchildren, William Mercer Brandenburg and Holden Johns Clarke. He is also survived by two sisters, Murray Hearne Stephens of Vienna, GA., and Katherine Hearne Sangster of Tifton, GA.


Graveside services will be held today, Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 11:00 A.M., at Westover Memorial Park, with Rev. Roy McVeigh officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church, 1330 Monte Sano Avenue, Augusta, GA 30904.
