John M. Hinnant, Sr.

Augusta, GA – John Michael Hinnant, Sr. entered into rest unexpectedly at AUMC/Wellstar on the evening of Monday, March 18, 2024 from an acute, devastating illness. John, aged 69, was a loving husband of 39 years to Loretta J. Hinnant.

John was a lifelong resident of Augusta, GA. He graduated from the Academy of Richmond County in 1973.  By trade, John was a welder/fabricator, retiring in 2016. 

John was a passionate outdoorsman, with fishing being one of his favorite pastimes.  He was fan of UGA football, NASCAR races, and playing the GA lottery. Having grown up in Augusta, he enjoyed watching the Masters and visited the Augusta National many times. John never knew a stranger and remained close with friends and acquaintances from school, work, and church. He loved telling stories and drinking cold beers.

He was a member of Pineview Baptist Church and spent the last 6 years faithfully volunteering at Broad Street Ministry Center. 

Family members in addition to his wife include his children: John Michael Hinnant, Jr., Dr. George Matthew Hinnant (Jaclynn), and Lindsay Hinnant Milam (Tim); grandchildren: John Michael Hinnant, III, Hunter Ryan Hinnant, Chase Edward Hinnant, and Mikayla Ann Hinnant; brother Dan Hinnant (Michelle) and sister Carlan Hinnant (Carol Boeding). He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl L and Sarah Hinnant, and brother, Carl Murphy.

The funeral service will be held Friday, March 22, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. at Pineview Baptist Church with Rev. John Kilpatrick officiating. Interment will follow in Bellevue Memorial Gardens. 

Pallbearers will be Hunter Hinnant, Tim Milam, Randall Andringa, Phil Harris, Lee Gulledge, and Bob Weldon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pineview Baptist Church Building Fund or Broad Street Ministry Center in Augusta, GA.
