John “Larry” Canady

Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Wednesday, September 12, 2012, Mr. John Larry Canady, 70, husband of Mrs. Gilberte Canady.
Mr. Canady was born in Twin City, GA. He attended school in Waynesboro, GA. He joined the Navy in 1964 and served in Vietnam. Mr. Canady retired as a Chief Petty Officer. He was a crew member on the USS WASP Amphitious Assault Ship which recovered Gemini VI, VII, and IX after its manned space missions. He earned many awards and commendations for his service in the Navy. After retiring from the Navy he was a mechanic for Sikorsky Aircraft.
Family members in addition to his wife include sons John Canady (Katrina) and Richard Rice (Gerrie); daughters Danielle Torino and Michele Severy (Creston); brother Bobby Canady (Sue); sister Betty Burton (Thomas); and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 16, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son. Burial will be in Fort Jackson National Cemetery with full military honors on Monday, September 17, 2012 at 11:00 A.M.
