Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Saturday, June 4, 2022, Mr. John M. “Pete” McDonald, Jr., 82, loving husband of Janice Steele McDonald for 60 years.
Pete was a 1959 graduate of the Academy of Richmond County after which he served in the U.S. Navy for four years. He attended Augusta College in the early part of his employment with Olin/Arch Chemical Co. where he spent 39 years, retiring from his last position as a corporate safety auditor. Pete enjoyed in his younger years family vacations at the beach, spending a lot of time camping, boating, fishing and giving his children a great appreciation of the outdoors which they have retained as adults. In retirement he enjoyed woodworking, backyard birdwatching, a little leisure traveling and playing Dominoes with his wife and friends.
Family members, in addition to his wife, include his children: Kelly M. Hagood (Craig) of Loganville, GA and Mark W. McDonald (Laura) of Hendersonville, TN; grandchildren: Neal Hagood (Sydney), Chelsea H. Juras (Jonathan), John M. Hagood (Katie), and Kate L. McDonald; great grandchildren: Ada Hagood, Paul and Annie Juras, and a brother: Eddy McDonald (Beth). He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Virginia McDonald.
Pete was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, and a memorial service will be held Saturday, June 18, 2022 at 3:00 PM at Wesley UMC with Rev. Greg Porterfield officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wesley UMC, 825 N Belair Rd, Evans, GA 30809, or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
