Mr. John Wayne Howell

Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Friday, April 23, 2010 at University Hospital, Mr. John Wayne Howell, 72, devoted husband of Dorothy Templeton Howell for 50 years.

Mr. Howell was a native of Gibson, GA and graduate of Wrens High School, but made the Augusta area his home for the past 47 years. He was a member of Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church and the Couples and Singles Sunday School Class. Mr. Howell was a member of the Elks Lodge #205, former President of Aiken Assembly and friend of Bill W for 35 years. He was an avid pool player.

Family members in addition to his wife include his daughters: Donna Howell Conrad and husband Glen, Laurie Howell Wanninger; grandchildren: Wyatt Ernest Wanninger, Jr., Ashlyn Marie Wanninger; brother: Walter Jerry Howell of Wrightsville, GA; sister: Georgeanna Howell Clements of Wrightsville, GA; very special sister-in-law: Ruth Howell of Hiram, GA; and numerous brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Mr. Howell was predeceased by his father: George William Howell, Sr., mother: Ozell Howell Russell; stepfather: Milledge Russell; and brother: George William Howell, Jr.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 26, 2010 at 12:00 Noon in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Greg Hatfield officiating. Internment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Couples and Singles Sunday School Class.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1330 Monte Sano Ave., Augusta, GA 30904, or the American Cancer Society, 2607 Commons Blvd., Augusta, GA 30909.
