Augusta, GA – Mr. Johnnie Earl Sammons, 79, loving husband of 58 years to Mrs. Sandra Radford Sammons, passed away at home surrounded by his loving wife, daughters, and his beloved dog Maggie after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer on Thursday, July 25, 2024.
Johnnie was a lifelong resident of Augusta and was a graduate of Academy of Richmond County class of 1964. He ran track and played football wearing #82. He was also awarded the Elk Memorial Sabor ROTC his junior year at Richmond. After graduation he played college football at the University of Tennessee/Martin. Johnnie attended the first class at Augusta Technical College earning a degree in electronics. Later he co-owned the Copper Boot in downtown Augusta. He retired from American Systems of the Southeast as a salesman.
Family members addition to his wife, include his daughters: Angie Sammons Hall (Jerry) and Jennifer Sammons Bowling (Donnie); grandchildren: Jordan Rodgers (Jessica), Sam Rodgers, Aiden Bowling, Zach Bowling, Elizabeth Fatica (Mike), Micheal Bowling (Elle) and Alexander Bowling (Lupe); great grandchildren: Avery and Issac Fatica; brother-in-law: Daniel Radford (Debbie Powell) and nieces: Rebecca and Rachel and his beloved dog Maggie. He was preceded in death by his parents: Ben C. Sammons and Mildred Anderson Sammons, brother, Larry Lamar Sammons, and nephew: Parker Radford, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bob and Jean Radford and sister-in-law, Marsha Radford.
Our family would also like to express our unwavering love and gratitude to longtime friends Rick Burnett, Bobby Harrison, Larry Fitzgerald, Dennis and Charlene Fehrman, and Lester and Phyllis Fox.
The family offers sincere thanks to Regency Southern Care Hospice for their excellent care, love, and tender encouragement given to Johnnie by Ansleigh, Mia, and Leigh. We would also like to extend our appreciation to the staff of Augusta Oncology, Dr. Squires, and his infusion nurses Chelsea and Amber who loved him and always brought a smile to his face.
A memorial service will be Saturday, August 3, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Jeff Meeks officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
